“It’s only another day,” is what Agnes Lister thinks about celebrating her 103rd birthday tomorrow.
A resident at Radius Millstream, Agnes was raised north of Dunedin on the family farm, but has lived in Mid Canterbury since 1956.
She married farmer George Lister, who died in 1968.
Agnes’ secret to a long healthy life is hard work on the farm, “and I’m lucky I suppose,” she said, with a grin.
Agnes has had an active role in the community being involved with the Women’s Institute and St David’s Church, she loves her jigsaw puzzles and produced a lot of fine embroidery work in her younger days.
Her son Murray Lister said ‘‘She had a saying that she would ‘take the oldies to embroidery,’ so I asked her ‘how old are the oldies?’ she had a bit of a chuckle and said
‘they are all younger than me.’’
Longevity runs in Agnes’ family, her Invercargill-based younger brother is in his 97th year, and her late-sister also lived into her 90s.
Agnes has been a resident of Radius Millstream since it was built five years ago.
Radius Millstream staff plan to celebrate her birthday milestone with an afternoon tea.
