It was Book Week at Tinwald School – and one of the readers dropped out of the sky.
The school’s children and teachers cheered as skydivers Lee Barraclough and Olly Burgin, of Skydiving Kiwis at Ashburton airport, dropped in to the school grounds after performing a spectacular stacking manoeuvre over the grounds, then high-fived the children after landing, flares streaming, amid orange smoke.
Principal Peter Livingstone said it was a great way to start Book Week, with Mr Burgin shedding his chute then moving into the school’s new hall to read a story to the children.
Other readers this week included mayor Donna Favel, author Stacey Broadbent, police officer Fran Hall, radio personality Phill Hooper and a selection of parents.
