Adventure Ahoy!

Mt Hutt College students Dante Davidson, 14, and Alice Jackson, 15, working for donations for travel on the Spirit of Adventure.

Mt Hutt College students have been embracing chances to fundraise money for a five-day trip on the Spirit of Adventure next month.

They have helped out at the annual Peak to Pub race, put their names in the ring for a swim/watersports challenge and last weekend were washing some pretty dirty cars in Ashburton.

Year 10 students Alice Jackson, 15, and Dante Davidson, 14, said ten college students – all in Year 10 – were heading offshore on the adventure after being selected to take part by their school.

Such was the interest that students names were drawn from a hat, Alice said.

Those on board for the November 14 to 19 voyage will be Maddie Webb, Ella Burrowes, Alice Jackson, Kerstin Burrows, Genna Oates, James Clark, Dante Davidson, Patrick McHugh, Flynn Cudmore and Henry King.

Each student has to raise around $1300 each; the trip departs from, and returns to, Tauranga.

The students involved were at Repco Ashburton on Saturday morning washing a steady stream of cars in varying states of need; many were thick with dust.

Some students have also been using a swim space at Flow Pool and Studio, in Methven to complete 25km of sponsored swimming.

The students are planning another car wash event next weekend in Methven and encourage anyone who is able to come along and get their car washed.

They will be based at Methven Motors, from 9am.
