Sue Baird is “back in her happy place” – behind the counter of her bookstore.
The book lover has opened up a new shop in The Triangle, Ashburton.
She ran a similar shop on Burnett Street for seven years before the 2011 earthquake damaged the building and forced the shop’s closure.
She later opened a shop on Beach Road, but there was not enough foot traffic to make the business viable and she closed it after 12 months.
Mrs Baird said she had missed book selling and the right shop had come along at the right time to enable her to indulge her passion again.
“Ashburton needs a good second hand book shop and I’m very happy to provide it.”
She said she had been busy sorting some of her estimated 50,000 books.
