Author put in hot seat

Deirdre Moses went to the Ashburton library to hand over a copy of her new children’s book – but she found herself reading it to a group of Ashburton College students.
Mrs Moses has just self-published Poppy the Pig and the Magic Fairy Garden, and went to the library to donate a copy, but was seen by an old school friend who is a teacher at the college and pressed into action.
Mrs Moses said the story may have been a little young for the students – but they listened carefully – as she told how she had heard her daughter Gracie talking to her grandmother, who made up a story over the phone.
That story was about Poppy the pig, and Mrs Moses thought she could turn it into a book – and did.
She prepared the text and Ashburton artist Lisa Harper did the illustrations, with Heartland Print producing the book.
It is available through the Fusion Gallery, or through Mrs Moses’s Facebook page.
She said she would be keen to write another if this one sold well.
