Ashburton Aviation Museum is thrilled to be one of the finalists in the Excellence in Tourism Awards being held as part of the Ashburton District ANZ Business of the Year Award.
Ashburton District Council has partnered with ANZ and Ri Ra Events to host the inaugural event, which aims to recognise and celebrate local business excellence.
Ashburton Aviation Museum collects, restores and displays historical aircraft at its complex at Ashburton Airport.
Included in the collection is New Zealand’s only Harrier Jump Jet and one of just eight Skyhawks. The museum also has many items relating to aviation history.
Museum immediate past president Warren Janett said the award nomination recognised the hard work and dedication of members past and present over the last 40 years.
The museum had come a long way over that time and considered itself to be “in the big league” in New Zealand when it came to aviation exhibits.
Being nominated promoted the museum and acknowledged it as being a popular attraction for visitors to Ashburton, he said.
Others up for the tourism award are Adventure Balloons NZ, Bella Vista Motel, Brinkley Resort and Southern Cross Lodge.
While the finalists in a number of categories have been named, an awards evening and black-tie gala dinner has been delayed because of covid restrictions.
