Bookarama ready to roll

Preparing for the start of Bookarama on Monday are Ashburton Rotary Club members (from left) Lindsay Holland, David Mead and Peter Stechman.

Scores of tables full of books, magazines, puzzles and other items have been sorted and laid out ready for new owners.

Bookarama opens at 8am on Monday at the Tancred Street sports hall and will run through until noon on Saturday.

The Ashburton Rotary Club project has been running for 42 years and is a big fundraiser that has supported local initiatives and causes over the years.

Rotarian and event convener David Mead said it was all set to go for the 2021 event.

“We’re a bit later holding it this year because of covid, but it’s full steam ahead and business as usual.”

He said anyone coming to Bookarama was required to scan in, wear a mask and to respect social distancing rules of one metre.

“Bring your own bags to fill,” Mr Mead said.

Bookarama is open from 9am from Tuesday to Friday and from 8am on the final morning.

Wednesday and Friday are late nights until 8.30pm, otherwise closing is 5.30pm.
