Busts busting for a bid

A second Busted Mid Canterbury art auction will go under the hammer shortly, with proceeds going to the Mid Canterbury Cancer Society.
Eleven plaster busts have been shaped and painted into impressive artworks by a number of well known local artists and are on display in Ashburton eatery Somerset Grocer.
Artists lending their skills to the project include Cheryl Irwin, Debbie Lambert, Carmen Lye, Tonee Hurley and Tina Yeatman. They created a colourful mix of abstract and realist works.
The previous Busted Mid Canterbury event in 2014 raised an impressive $10,000 for the cancer society.
Ten of the plaster busts this year were made from the same manikin, while the eleventh was the chest of Mid Canterbury rugby player Jon Dampney, said Somerset Grocer owner Nicky Milmine.
Those keen to secure a bust were able to place a bid in a container located alongside the busts, or they could bid at the Busted Mid Canterbury Facebook page.
The highest pre-bid on each bust would form the starting price on the auction night, Mrs Milmine said.
