Ashburton College choirs have a number of concerts booked and two tours lined up over the next few months.
The choirs are fundraising for the tours and will combine with other choirs at a choral showcase on May 21.
Called A Concert of Choirs, the 7pm concert in the college auditorium will bring together the Mid Canterbury Choir, MSA Men’s Choir and recently formed Mount Hutt College Choir.
One of the songs the combined choirs will sing is ‘Release Our Love’, a song written by well-known international performer Ali Harper after the Mosque shootings.
Ali Harper herself will conduct the choirs when they sing her song.
The concert will include an auction conducted by Rodger Letham and a number of items donated by the community will go under the hammer.
Senior college choir, Phoenix Chorus, is set to head south to perform seven short concerts in and around Dunedin later this month, including in the city’s cathedral and at Larnach Castle .
Both the Chorus and junior choir, Phoenix Rising, with perform at concerts with the Mid Canterbury Choir in August.
The Chorus will also sing at a concert with the New Zealand Male Choir and MSA Men’s Choir in October.
At the end of the year, Phoenix Rising heads north for the biennial Top of the South tour and early next year Phoenix Chorus has its own tour to the Bay of Islands.
Tickets for A Concert of Choirs are available online at events.humanitix.com/a-concert-of-choirs/tickets or from the college office.
