Dancers score high marks

Jazz dance students Esther Shaw and Charlie Backhurst, of Dance Worx Ashburton, earned distinction honours (95%) in their advanced two and grade four, respectively, end of year exam results.

The pair were among some outstanding end of year exams results achieved by students of the studio which, despite covid disruptions saw 40 students achieving marks higher than 85% including twelve of those with high honours (90%) and the two distinctions.

Dance Worx, once known as Ashburton Academy of Dance, has been teaching for more than 50 years. It is run by teachers Charmaine Quaid and Jessie Thomson, assisted by Ella Shanks, and is based at Balmoral Hall.

Classes on offer include classical ballet, American jazz, jazz funk, lyrical, theatre craft, hip-hop, acro dance, jazz contemporary and strength and conditioning.
