Netherby School has sealed a relationship with local dentist The Big Grin and will receive annual oral hygiene educator and free toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The school had been on the look out for a dental sponsor for the last five years and was delighted to pen an agreement, principal Phil Wheeler said.

He said orthodontist Joseph Petelo from The Big Grin and two staff members had visited the school and treated senior students to a fun presentation on how to care for their teeth.

He had also handed over toothpaste and toothbrushes, sponsored by Colgate, to the entire school of 161 pupils.

The new dental sponsor was supported by the New Zealand Dental Association.

Mr Wheeler said the school was already a water and Fonterra Milk School.

He looked forward to the annual get together with the dentists as it would provide an important reminder to children about the importance of dental care in their youth.
