Long-serving Ashburton Mitre 10 Mega employee Brian Glassey talked chooks and retail with Kiwi music icon Dave Dobbyn during a surprise visit to the store on Friday.
Dobbyn was in town to perform at the Christmas in The Park concert in the Ashburton Domain and congratulated Mr Glassey on his 50 years of service to the company.
Dobbyn told Mr Glassey that he was held in the highest regard by his fellow work mates and had achieved an impressive milestone.
The pair enjoyed a short conversation that discussed changes in retail over the years, Mr Glassey’s health and also chickens.
Mr Glassey told Dobbyn that he was a proud life member of the Ashburton Fanciers Society.
Dobbyn replied by stating that “he took care of chooks when he was a kid.”
Mr Glassey urged Dobbyn to “get them rockin” at the Ashburton Christmas in the Park concert and admitted that he was not able to make it this year.
Mr Glassey wore his original brown and beige work uniform, dating back to the late 1970s, on Friday. The day marked exactly 50 years since he started work with WH Collins as a 16-year-old.
Dave Dobbyn performed at an impressive concert in Ashburton on Saturday night and mentioned his enjoyable visit and chook chat with Brian Glassey. Dobbyn’s slick musical performance included collaborations with three local choirs and all of his well-known songs.
