Roadworthy vehicles of all descriptions are invited to take part in a charity-supporting car rally around Mid Canterbury on Sunday.
Organised by in the Ashburton Vintage Car Club, the rally will raise money for the Cancer Society.
Car club spokesman David Oakley said the event would run in the form of a scatter rally and was intended to be a fun day and “not to be taken too seriously”.
Drivers were asked to arrive at the club’s Maronan Road clubrooms from 12.45pm for a 1pm briefing.
Those taking part would be issued with a map containing 36 reference points, each with an associated question and each with a points value.
Drivers were allowed to plot a route for 15 minutes before the official start at 1.30pm.
Vehicles needed to return by 3pm, when points would be tallied and prizes allocated.
“We’re encouraging anyone with a road worthy vehicle of any kind to take part on the day.
“It doesn’t have to be a classic or vintage car, people with ordinary cars, trucks, motorbikes and even push bikes can enter.”
The idea of the event was to raise as much money as possible for the local Cancer Society.
Mr Oakley said all 36 vintage car club branches throughout New Zealand were hosting an event of some kind to support the charity.
Entry costs $10 and is payable on the day.
