Persistent drizzle – a bugbear of the Mayfield Show the week earlier – affected numbers at the Methven Show on Saturday – but a good crowd turned out in the conditions to see the displays.
President Mark Lock said the damp weather kept some out-of-towners away, but the show still attracted strong local support.
The gate was down about a third, he said.
The show attracted nearly 2000 entries, slightly up on last year, and he thanked the donors in the gift calf section.
The calves, he said, were well grown.
The association will hold its winter feed competition in May and the regional final of the dairy heifer competition will be at the Mackenzie Show at Easter.
Mr Lock said he had a supportive committee.
Although the gate was down, there was plenty of enthusiasm, with live music, a host of events and attractions, and competitors.
