A woman weeps, a tear on her cheek.
Artist Carmen Lye has captured the mood.
A new collection of 23 faith-based works is on display at the Methven Heritage Centre.
Most of the paintings were done in the past six months, some over the past few weeks.
“I’ve always used the Bible as a reference for my painting.”
Carmen began painting as a child – her mother, Jenny Thompson is an artist – and studied at art school before taking a break before resuming her art over the past few years.
She has also exhibited (at Methven) with her mother.
She paints daily, if possible, but always weekly.
“I keep a diary with me and I take a lot of photos, and I see paintings in photos.”
A particular love is portraiture.
She finds inspiration around her and, in this instance, from the Bible, with a creation theme.
The exhibition is on until August 2.
