An impressive line-up of bands and DJ’s and a spectacular rail jam event are set to feature at Methven’s White Out festival on August 7.

The festival will be held at Methven Racecourse and is expected to draw a big crowd of locals and visitors.

It will provide an economic boost for the Methven area and further promote local tourism.

Mt Hutt skifield and Cream Events have teamed up to present White Out, which is being dubbed “a musical winter odyssey”.

Cream Events managing director Sam Smith said White Out was about showcasing the Methven area and putting it on the radar of more people.

Bringing more people to town would bring obvious economic benefits.

Mr Smith said in terms of music, the festival was set to be “the baddest line-up to grace Canterbury this winter”.

He was hoping for 2000 people or more at the event.

Cream Events has received $10,000 from the Mid Canterbury Regional Events Fund to put on the music festival and has an impressive line-up of more than a dozen bands and DJ’s set to play at an R18 ticketed event from 7pm.

Performers include rapper Scribe, Aw B, Daily J, Bexy, Australian bands What So Not, Spacey Jane, Royalston and Human Movement and UK band Grafix.

Olympic Winter Games medallist and top New Zealand freestyle skier Nico Porteous will also perform his first ever DJ set at the festival.

Some of the bands and DJ’s will also play at the Mt Hutt skifield over the weekend.

The first half of White Out is free for everyone and runs from 4pm until 6pm.

It kicks off with a family-friendly rail jam competition.

Mt Hutt will truck down the snow and qualified riders of all ages will show off their skills and tricks.

Methven company Adventure Balloons will cold inflate a standard walk through balloon and as it gets dark will inflate a special shaped Ford van using the burners to light up the inside of the balloon like a large light bulb.

Food and drink stalls will be set up to keep people fed and watered.
