Lynnford Hall near Hinds will be closed.
The final meeting of the Lynnford Reserve Board was held in April, with 10 in attendance, and a resolution passed that the hall be closed.
Power has been shut off and an historic picture removed for safekeeping.
The board discussed future options for the hall, the need for an earthquake risk assessment, its lack of use, and decided to close it.
A plaque will be put on site to mark the hall and a former school.
Archives New Zealand has attendance records for the school in the 1940s.
The Hinds Reserve Board will be approached to take over the land on which the hall sits.
Options include demolition.
