Fine Lion set to open its doors

The Fine Lion will located on the first floor of the new Murney building.

Ashburton’s newest hospitality venue is set to open its doors in the new Murney building in mid November.

The Fine Lion restaurant and bar will be located on the first floor of the high profile building on the corner of East and Burnett streets.

It can be accessed via a lift or two sets of stairs and will have a large wrap-around balcony.

The new venue is the brainchild of Matt and Belinda Fine, who own and will continue to operate Kelly’s Cafe and Bar along the street.

Matt Fine said the couple was very excited to be opening the Fine Lion, a project that had been on their radar for a couple of years

It would be located in an impressive building and in an excellent location and the plan was to move in on November 2 and to be open two weeks later.

Mr Fine said the venue’s name was a play on words of his surname and the coat of arms featuring the lion that was on both sides of the Murney building.

The Fine Lion would offer casual, relaxed dining and a friendly bar.

A big selling point, he said, was the large covered balcony area that had room for up to 70 people.

The interior would have a post-colonial feel, with mosaic tiles and lots of greenery.

Mr Fine said he would be employing around 20 staff, both full and part time, and was still looking for front of house staff.

Local caterer and former Masterchef contestant Chantelle Quinn is helping with menus and setting up the kitchen.

The Fine Lion will be open from 11am on weekdays and from 9am on weekends.latest Nike SneakersNike
