Hinds Lions Club has added to its Santa Parade fleet with Thomas the Tank Engine and Clarabel set to join the Red Baron, Snoopy and Buzzy Bee at Saturday’s event in Ashburton.

Lowcliffe farmer and tinkerer Kevin Jackson has once again got creative with junk and upcycled items and has crafted the new parade additions.

An old ride-on mower, donated by Hinds local Kevin Cartwright, has been used to give Thomas his power, while 30 plus obsolete real estate ‘For Sale’ signs given by Hinds Lion and realtor Dave Thomson have provided the bodywork.

Plastic drums add strength while old irrigation pipe, barrows and plenty of Kiwi ingenuity have also gone into the project.

After the 12.30pm parade along East Street, Hinds Lions hope to hire out Thomas and Clarabel for birthday parties.
