A big fish design has beaten 134 other entries and been chosen as the district’s official Christmas card.
Designed by Ashburton Borough student Luke Rhodes, the card was inspired by Rakaia’s big salmon.
The aspiring artist wins 50 printed cards and other prizes.
The card will be used as the Christmas card of the Ashburton council and art gallery.
The competition asked five to 13 year olds to create a design based on the theme of an Ashburton Christmas and in a technique known as pointillism, which uses dots and dashes.
Ilam School pupil Sarah Chapman won the people’s choice award with her design that featured the stone bridge in the Tinwald Domain.
