The new-look MenzShed in William Street, Ashburton, is taking shape.
Members have moved from their old site on the Methven Highway to a donated shed members moved to a council yard in William Street, and under the direction of builder Dick Hansen, full renovation “is under way.
The new building will feature separate workshops for metalworkers and woodworkers, an assembly area, an office, smoko room, toilets and a shower.
The front exterior of the building will also be clad.
Members now are putting “up internal walls, and one wall in the metalwork area has already been lined.
Gear moved from the old site is stored separately until it can be moved into the renovated shed.
Members – when not working on the new home – have completed many jobs, includ”ing fully restoring a worn-out high-country wool wagon, making hundreds of trap holders for the Department of Conservation – and members have even restored a child’s swing and saved an antique chair.
