National champ, three medals

Ashburton cyclist Maddi Lowry has won a national title and claimed three medals at the Age Group Track National Championships in Invercargill.

The 15-year-old Ashburton College student, racing in the under 17 age group, won gold in the 7.5km points race.

She won silver in the 3km team pursuit with Canterbury team mates Samantha Walker, Amelia Sykes and Amye Kellow, with the quartet just wo seconds behind the Auckland team that claimed a new national record.

Maddi also earned a bronze with team mate Samantha Walker in the 7.5km girls madison.
