Riff Raff did not have a speaking role, but he played his part.
He was at Ashburton Library – and will be every Tuesday afternoon from 2.30 to 4.30 – to give young readers confidence with reading.
Riley Husband, 6, of Borough School, Ashburton, was Riff Raff’s first pupil, and both passed with flying colours.
Riff Raff, a Norwich terrier, belongs to Jill Watson, the Ashburton librarian – and as well as being a faithful companion, he will do a canine good citizen course.
The aim is to encourage young readers to the library and to make them feel comfortable reading.
“Pets are a way to do this. They are a very uncritical audience.”
