The lines and the dance moves are being honed, the costumes fit like a glove and in just over two weeks Variety Theatre Ashburton’s 2019 show Sister Act will take to the stage.

In Sunday’s wardrobe walk through all of the cast of 32, in full costume, paraded.

Nuns, altar boys, bad boys, tarts and a monsignor all feature in the comedy romp.

Rehearsals on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday are busy and organised affairs and will continue in the lead up to the curtain being raised on May 24.

The Sister Act flooring and set will be erected in Ashburton Trust Event Centre this weekend and there will be four complete run-throughs on stage before the opening night.

The cast has a long day planned for May 19 when they will also work with the 11-piece orchestra.

Sister Act tells the story of Reno lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier who witnesses her mobster boyfriend killing an employee.

She is then hidden in a convent under a witness protection programme and makes friends with the nuns, especially Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Lazarus and Sister Mary Patrick.

Sharleyne Diamond will take on the role of Deloris, made famous in the film version of Sister Act by Whoopi Goldberg.

Other local performers in the show include Luke Glendining, Chris Woods, Brent Grey, Brooke Dwyer, Patrice Hammond and Kim Vessey.

Shows will be performed from May 24 to June 1. Tickets are available from the Event Centre or ticketdirect.co.nz.
