Ride on toys, face painting, tap dancing, karate, flax weaving and a sausage sizzle are some of the many fun family activities and kai on offer at the Mid-Winter Christmas Family event at Mania-O-Roto Scout Park on Saturday.
Organised by Mid Canterbury Newcomers Network and Mid Canterbury Plunket, the event is free for families to attend.
Plunket community support co-ordinator Sue-ann Carr said it was a chance for newcomers to the district to join in some fun activities and meet other people and families living in the district.
“It’s to bring together newcomers and locals to have fun participating in a series of activities and make connections,” she said.
It also showcased some of the organisations and groups available in the district.
Mrs Carr and Newcomers Network co-ordinator Adi Avnit were working behind the scenes to get the event off the ground.
A range of activities will be showcased, with 15 organisations and individuals taking part during the event. They include Ashburton Toy Library, BASE, Parent
Centre, Ashburton Indian Multi-Cultural Trust, Fire and Emergency New Zealand and Sport Mid Canterbury.
The park will be decorated with a touch of Christmas and exhibitors were encouraged to add their own Christmas cheer to their activity or area.
The family event will be on wet or fine at Mania-O-Roto Scout Park,
Chalmers Avenue on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
