Quilts for St John crew

Five colourful single bed quilts, made by 14 members of the Mid Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes (WI), during 250 hours of toil over four weeks, now cover the beds at St John station in Ashburton.

The quilts, beautifully patchworked together from donated material, are a mix of multiple colours, shapes and designs.

They were “made with love” by the WI members for St John Ashburton’s sleeping quarters, following recent renovations at the station.

Mid Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes president Mavis Wilkins said material and batting was donated by WI members and sewing businesses Material Time Ashburton, Spotlight Christchurch and Timaru Sewing Centre.
