Hampstead Softball Club is hosting a pre-season softball tournament next month to showcase the sport to the community.
It’s been many years since the club ran its own tournament and organisers are looking forward to the event planned for October 2 and 3.
Hampstead Softball Club president Lyndall Chisnall said interest had been building, and already six teams had registered; two from Hampstead and four others from around Mid Canterbury including Demons, Fairfield and Panthers teams.
There was even interest from the West Coast, she said, but their involvement would depend on covid restrictions.
At this stage the tournament, made up of mixed social teams, was limited to eight teams and due to be played over two days, but it could be shortened depending on the final number of teams entered.
It could just end up being a one day event with the current six teams, she said.
The weekend would see some quality softball action on show, and there would also be food and coffee stalls on the grounds for people to purchase food and drinks.
There would also be a housie fundraiser in the clubrooms on Friday night ahead of the tournament.
It was open to anyone to attend and started from 6pm.
The competition still has space for anyone who wants to enter a team, Mrs Chisnall said.
Teams can be entered via Hampstead Softball Facebook page or by emailing
