Sport centre drivers urged to slow down

Drivers – slow down.
That’s the plea from Steve Prescott, Ashburton council sport facilities manager, who is concerned someone could be hit by a speeding car at the popular EA Networks Centre.
Mr Prescott said there had been several near misses.
The problem was that drivers came in off the road and sped past the entrance to the sports facility and did not look for children or adults walking into the facility from the car park.
‘‘There is a 20km/h limit but some don’t slow down and watch for pedestrians. Unless drivers start to slow down, we may be forced to look at speed bumps,’’ Mr Prescott said.
He said children, in particular, could be unpredictable and drivers had to be alert.
