The art of the water-colour

Amanda Brett is an artist – but as a specialist water colourist, she must watch the weather – rain and paint not being the ideal mix.

But on Monday morning, the weather co-operated as she led a class in water-colour art for a group enrolled through the Ashburton Art Society.

Brett was running a three-day course during which artists tackled still life, a rural scene and, on Monday, a cafe scene at Nosh in the Ashford Village off West Street, Ashburton.

Painters from Pleasant Point and Christchurch joined local artists in trying to perfect the art.

The water colour class was run through the Ashburton Art Society, and at the end of this week, Geraldine artist John Badcock will run classes on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the society’s Short Street Studio.
