The district’s annual Toot For Tucker foodbank drive is all set to go on November 19.

Organised by the Lions Club of Ashburton County, with sponsor support from Property Brokers, the food drive asks the public to donate in date, unopened, non-perishable goods to boost local foodbanks.

Food collectors will be out and honking horns in a variety of vehicles from 6pm.

The “drive by” will take in streets in urban Ashburton, Tinwald, Hinds and Lake Hood, with further community collection points in Fairton and Chertsey.

Since its inception in 2000, the benevolent project has grown and contributed significantly to local foodbanks run by the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and Presbyterian Support, which give to those in need.

The initiative is supported by beneficiary groups, youth groups, other Lions clubs and the wider community.

Ashburton County Lions recently won the regional Empowering Volunteers section at the Trustpower Community Awards in recognition of Toot For Tuckers’s contribution to the district.
