The sound of honking horns will resonate around Ashburton and other areas when collectors supporting community foodbank initiative Toot For Tucker hit the streets from 6pm on Monday.

Organised by Ashburton County Lions and with support from Property Brokers and a number of community helpers and volunteers, the project collects donated, non-perishable goods to restock the town’s food banks.

Special Toot For Tucker donation bags will be included in today’s Ashburton Courier and all donated items should be in date and unused.

The food collected is sorted at Ashburton Racecourse and given to local branches of the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul and Presbyterian Support, which in turn pass it on to those families in the community who are struggling and in need of a hand up during the Christmas season and the following months.

All volunteers are asked to meet at Ashburton Racecourse for a briefing just before 6pm on the day.
