Tracks cleared as athletes prepare

The tracks have been cleared and Geraldine’s popular multi challenge is ready to rock.

The Geraldine Multi Challenge is on Sunday March 18 (entries close on March 14, with late entries accepted up to midnight March 16).

It is organised by the Geraldine Lions and has provided tens of thousands of dollars for charity.

There are running, walking and cycling events using the tracks along the Orari River and beyond.

The tracks were closed for several months for logging, but are open again, and contractors have been careful to keep logs away from the tracks.

All ages are catered for, and events include the 52km Geraldine Mountain Bike Challenge for competitive riders (and includes some hill climbing and single tracks). a 32km intermediate challenge, mostly on tracks alongside the Orari River, and an 18km recreational ride, also using the Orari tracks.

There is also a half marathon – a picturesque run through the tracks, a 13.8km run and a 5.8km run and a walk over the same distance.

Alan Kelly, of Bike Geraldine, said the regional council, ECan, and contractors had been very good in keeping tracks clear ready for the big race.
