Ashburton District Council is advising residents to be extra vigilant with their water use from tomorrow (Saturday 2 December), when a Level One water restriction will start.
Residents connected to a Council water supply in Ashburton, Rakaia, Methven, Hakatere, Chertsey, Lake Hood, Fairton, Hinds, Mt Somers and Mayfield will be restricted to only using a hose on alternate days to help conserve water in the district.
“Dry conditions have certainly started settling in around Mid Canterbury, and that means we need to be bit more careful about how much water we use. If you’re wanting to water your garden or wash your car with a hose, please make sure it’s on your allocated day,” Council Assets Manager Andrew Guthrie says.
The restriction allows residents to use a hose on even or odd days of the calendar, depending on their street number or location.
The Level One restriction will not apply to residents connected to the Dromore, Methven/Springfield or Montalto supplies, as they are already on a permanent hosing ban.
The restriction will remain in place until further notice.
