Janet Harding was driving to Arthur’s Pass when the muse took her.
A story formed in her mind, based on events unfolding at her place of work, the Peel Forest Pre-school.
The result, with the support of illustrator Denise Fisher, also of Geraldine, is Ginger, a children’s book launched at the preschool on Sunday.
It is Mrs Harding’s first book, but may not be the last, with others ideas coming to mind.
The story is based on a real hen, which fled the coop and laid an egg at the preschool.
Mrs Harding called the hen Ginger.
So the story began about a year ago.
Mrs Harding published the book through a Wellington firm, YourBooks.
Ginger is for sale at Little Heros in Geraldine, The Green Man at Peel Forest and from Mrs Harding in Geraldine.
