Ashburton Library’s first Wriggle & Read session has been a big success.
Some 30 babies and toddlers were brought along on Tuesday.
The session featured a music and movement segment, a chance to practise fine and gross motor and balance skills with plastic balls and book reading.
Children’s librarian Jonathan Nixon encouraged caregivers to speak and to read to children “even before they were born”.
Reading created a “warm and safe” environment that children would remember as they grew older and read for themselves. Wriggle and Read is aimed at those from zero to three years and runs every Tuesday from 10.30am during school term time.
