Record average sales have been achieved at the 60th annual PGGWrightson sheep and cattle dog sale held in Tinwald.
Half a dozen dogs sold for $6,000 or more and the top price reached was an impressive $6,600.
Some 44 of the 52 dogs put forward for the sale were sold, with an average price of $3795 achieved.
A big turnout of buyers and working dog enthusiasts attended the annual yarding sale.
Two thirds of the dogs entered were heading dogs, the rest huntaways.
Murray Campbell of PGG-Wrightson said the top price, $6600, was paid for two and a half year-old heading dog Sam, which was offered by Ross Millar from Akaroa and sold to Warwick Greene from Sheffield.
Mr Campbell said dog owners should be complemented for the high quality of dogs entered.
The record prices reached reflected the quality of dogs offered, he said.
The Tinwald sale and another in Gore are the only two annual South Island dog sales.
