Ashburton Christian School student Aidan Wang was ‘‘a bit shaken’’ to receive the honour of Dux at his school’s prizegiving recently.

This was because the 17-year-old not only felt the award was a huge honour, but found out it came with a $6000 University of Otago scholarship.

Now as he considers heading off to the southern university next year, he is interested in studying medicine with a view to a future career in the field.

‘‘I’m still deciding between a clinical doctor or a researcher,’’ he said.

Aidan said his tip for academic success was to have a good study schedule.

As well as throwing himself into his subjects of physics, chemistry, calculus, English and biology, Aidan is a keen volleyball player.

He was also a member of the student executive.

Aidan had his final exam of his high school years this week – physics – on Tuesday.

Prior to beginning his tertiary education, he will have a busy summer.

He will be helping out his grandparents who operate Farmers Corner, doing all sorts of jobs from washing dishes to packing products. He also plans to attend a Christian camp.
