No further action will be taken by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) following a hot air balloon crash last Friday in Methven.
A CAA spokesperson today confirmed the authority had made initial enquiries as a standard part of CAA’s assessment process, to determine whether any further regulatory action is required.
‘‘We take into consideration multiple factors, such as the safety risk involved, the extent of any harm or damage, the circumstances of the occurrence, and whether there are any broader safety issues requiring regulatory attention.
‘‘Based on the information we gathered, CAA determined that no further enquiries were warranted, and no further action from us will be taken.’’
The accident last week saw two people injured after the hot air balloon they were in, crashed as they were lifting off from the Methven Domain.
The balloon was one of about 12 taking off that morning ahead of the Fire & Ice Hot Air Balloon Festival in Methven at the weekend.
Methven Volunteer Fire Brigade chief Brent Anderson said they were called to a incident on Methven Chertsey Rd just before 8.30am when a hot air balloon got caught in trees.
The balloon came down on Methven Chertsey Rd.
Anderson said they provided road control and cleanup.
Two people were injured, and Hone Hato St John said one person was taken to the local medical centre in a minor condition.
