Indoor nets will be a game changer for players, giving them a first-class place to train through winter and in all weather conditions, Mid Canterbury Cricket Association board chair Jane Fowles says.
The association has launched a ‘buy-a-brick’ campaign to help raise $25,000 to complete its indoor net facility upgrade.
Fowles said it was the final push needed for the facility thanks to a successful fundraising dinner earlier this year and ‘‘a significant contribution’’ from the Lion Foundation.
‘‘We’re asking the community to help us cross the line.’’

The campaign offers individuals, families, businesses, and community organisations the chance to contribute $1000 and make their mark on a facility to serve cricket players of all ages across Mid Canterbury for years to come.
The momentum behind the project reflects the community’s passion for the game, she said.
Earlier this year, the association held a fundraising evening with guest speakers and cricketing greats Chris Harris and Garth Gallaway.
‘‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity shown so far, from the Lion Foundation grant to everyone who supported our dinner. We’re so close.’’
Bricks can be purchased by individuals, families or businesses, and each purchase will result in a named plaque being placed on the brick in the wall of the indoor net centre.
