Organisers of the CanBead Artisan Market are gearing up for another successful indoor market.

It is on next weekend at the Tinwald Hall from 11am to 3pm.

CanBead workshop tutor Daphne Hinton said they noticed a gap in the market scene with very few on offer during winter, so two years ago held their first market offering shoppers the chance to purchase exquisitely handmade items.

While spaces to hold a stall are filling quickly, CanBead coordinator for Mid And South Canterbury Fiona Giles said there were a few places available for those selling homemade goods.

CanBead offers free creative therapy workshops for individuals experiencing illness, trauma, and loss.

The workshops focus on beading crafts and offer a variety of items such as jewellery, bag tags, sun catchers, and bookmarks.

On offer at this year’s market will be stalls selling a variety of unique and beautifully crafted items including teddy bears, bags, jackets.

There will also be jewellery that CanBead has been donated but hasn’t been able to be broken down for their jewellery making kits.

The jewellery is sold and the money used to purchase supplies for the kits.

New to this year’s market will be a children’s craft area.

‘‘For a gold coin children will be able to make bracelets, sun catchers and paint a mug,’’ Giles said.

‘‘We are excited about a group from Christchurch who are Afghan ladies, who will be selling their traditional food. Money raised is being sent to Afghanistan to help single mums,’’ Giles said.

There will be stalls selling food and a mobile food truck. Fund raised will support the workshops the CanBead provide.

‘‘The number of workshops we offer continues to grow and funds from the market will allow us to reach more people,’’ Hinton said
