More than 300 LEGO enthusiasts from around New Zealand will exhibit at the annual Christchurch Brick Show this weekend.

Among them is Tyler Dyson from Ashburton.

The 17-year-old will take three Star Wars displays he has constructed – Grand Army the Republic, Imperial Army, and his own creation yet to be named.

They will include space ships, about 80 clone army figurines holding light sabres and blasters, and space walkers.

Tyler said he was looking forward to exhibiting for the first time, after having been a visitor to the show in the past.

‘‘I think there’s a competition around it, but I’m not really interested in that, I’m just interested in showing the LEGO,’’ Tyler said.

He was looking forward to meeting fellow LEGO enthusiasts.

It would be a delicate process packing and transporting the displays to the show, something he planned to do with the help of his dad.

The father-son duo were thinking of placing the constructions among soft bedding on the deck of the family ute.

Show organiser Jonny Reid said exhibitor numbers each year had continued to grow since the show began in 2012.

It had forced him and fellow organisers to consider using a bigger arena.

‘‘We’re usually at max capacity,’’ Reid said.

“Every year we’re completely blown away by the creativity and dedication that goes into each builder’s exhibit.’’

This year, exhibitors are invited to recreate a place recognised on the New Zealand Heritage List Rarangi Korero using LEGO.

The show will also feature a mindfulness mosaic made by former LEGO Masters contestant Rachel de Vries.

Drawing on her work with children, which sees her travelling around schools to inspire the next generation, de Vries uses her brick building to encourage creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.

She said her mosaics were about encouraging people to explore their deeper selves.
