Man arrested after bank robbery

Ashburton Police arrested a 32-year-old local man in connection with a robbery at the ASB bank in Burnett Street, Ashburton this morning.
It is alleged the man entered the bank at around 10.10am and gave the teller a note demanding money. He was given a sum of cash and left.
Police responded and apprehended the man a short time later with the assistance of the public.
Staff members in the bank were not physically harmed and are being supported by ASB. They will be referred to Victim Support.
The male will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with robbery.
