Damaged sculpture to be removed

A damaged concrete ”whale bone” sculpture in Ashburton will be removed tomorrow (July 5) after a structural engineer’s assessment of the damage found the feature to be a significant health and safety risk to the public.
The sculpture, one of many in Baring Square East, is cracked.
“After finding significant damage to one of the features, we felt it necessary to have all of the structures inspected by an engineering firm to ensure the community’s safety,” said chief executive Hamish Riach.
