The Government has commited an additional $4 million funding for flood-affected Canterbury farmers.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement during a visit to Ashburton today.
Ms Ardern said Canterbury farmers are dealing with a massive recovery effort following the recent floods and facing significant costs that aren’t covered by insurance.
“It’s clear that extra funding is needed to relieve pressure on farmers who have also been battling drought.
“This new funding will help ensure that they are supported and can get on with the job of fixing their farms and get their farming operations underway again,” Ms Ardern said.
Ashburton Mayor Neil Brown told media that he asked the Prime Minister if this was the end of the funding, and she had replied that it was not, there is more to come.
