The Geraldine community is being invited to offer comment and feedback on a planned nature and sculpture trail project.
A design plan is now available for the Geraldine Nature and Sculpture Trail which aims to enhance and define the township.
The vision for the trail is to take natural areas like the Waihi River trail, Talbot Forest walks and Geraldine Domain, and also the commercial centre, and to create an integrated experience which spans nature, the arts, history, and culture.
Both Timaru District Council and Venture Timaru have been supporters of and partners in the project and have provided funds and resources to date.
The landscape masterplan has been completed by landscape architects Glasson Huxtable.
Following community consultation, the plan will be finalised and a fundraising schedule set.
The next stages will see applications to funders and opportunities for the community to become involved, either through financial support or by supplying resources such as labour to support the development of the trail concept.
Donors for sculpture and art will also be sought.
The project group plans to secure a number of permanent pieces for the trail and to feature other temporary sculptures which would be for sale. Sales from the ever-changing trail could provide income that supports ongoing maintenance and development.

Feedback on the trail closes on October 3.
