A proposal to operate an information centre inside the former i-SITE building in Ashburton will not proceed after a formal agreement could not be reached.

The Ashburton District Council (which owns the building) together with the Ashburton Info Hub Group (Info Hub) made the announcement today, following many months of efforts and negotiations to re-open the East Street building as an information centre.

“Work has been advancing on the Ashburton town centre redevelopment, and the council has been trying to find the right balance between utilising the former i-Site building and the ongoing work of the revitalisation project,” said chief executive Hamish Riach.

Council has already made the decision that the building will be removed as part of the CBD redevelopment in keeping with the vision to create a pedestrian and cycle friendly environment.
