Shooters fire at nationals

Nine members of the Ashburton District Rifle Club are currently taking part in shooting events at the national championships at Trentham.

The competition started last Friday and runs until January 15.

The programme includes the 300m championship, Wellington Championship, North vs South Island, Masefield Belt (one-day lead-up match) and the prestigious Ballinger Belt over four days.

Eight members of the Ashburton club were named in the teams competitions, including top marksman John Snowden, who won the Ballinger Belt in 2013 and 2018.

In the early action the South Island TR team beat the North Island, but the placings were reversed in the F class team event.

Ashburton shooter Coby Snowden won the a 1000-yard sweep challenge in the FTR-Classic grade and in the Wellington Championship fellow club members Brian Graystone won the FTR-Classic and David Smith was second in the FPR class.
