Fifteen T-Bucket hot rods, a race car made from a Fiat Topolino body and powered by a Lincoln motor, and a Lamborghini were among the 300 cars on show in Methven last month for the biennial Hot Rods at Methven display.
It drew in a steady stream of people and raised $5000 for the Methven Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Methven organisers Annmarie and Gerard McCloy said the public display was well attended and had been a highlight of a three day gathering of 110 hot rod owners.
‘‘The locals certainly got to see a wide range of cars around the district during this time,’’ Annmarie said.
Other car owners attended the public display day arriving from Christchurch, Timaru and the West Coast.

Vehicles were parked up for public viewing around the car park area of Methven’s iconic Blue Pub as well as throughout town.
‘‘There were a few more cars on display this year than other years and the parking areas on Kilworth St and behind the Mt Hutt (Memorial Hall) were full of interesting classic cars,’’ Annmarie said.
Among them was a section of Model A cars standard and modified, and also a separate area for 1920’s to 1940’s cars until the space filled up.

She said about 15 T-Buckets parked up in the front of the Blue Pub and its new owner, Guri, had his McLaren and a friend’s Lamborghini on display.
‘‘Of special note was an old race car made from a Fiat Topolino body, custom chassis and powered by a 368 cubic inch Lincoln motor called the Jennings Special,’’ she said.
‘‘This was on display by its owner who now resides in Methven.’’

‘‘This event is great for the Methven community as we don’t tend to get outside food vendors in, as we like to see our local businesses being supported.
“It was awesome to see so many of them open during the holiday period.’’
She said the next show was planned for 2027, as it alternated each year with a similar event in Greymouth.
