A new lifestyle village with 255 homes for people over-50 is being built on the eastern side of Ashburton.
The Freedom Lifestyle Village Ashburton has had homes under construction since June and has officially open its onsite office doors.
Located on the corner of Trevors and Beach roads, the village will feature architecturally designed homes in a modern, thoughtfully designed complex for people aged over-50.
Consultant Olivia Sporle said Ashburton was a natural fit for Freedom’s next village as a well-connected, established town with strong infrastructure, ideal for resident travellers.
Other complexes have been built at North Canterbury, in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, she said.
Close to walking and cycling tracks, parks, mountains, and coastlines, (the village) offers a lifestyle that appeals to those who value quality living and easy access to amenities, travel, and the outdoors, she said.
‘‘The village is purpose-built for low-maintenance, secure, and high-quality living for over-50s.’’

Once completed, it will feature: 255 architecturally designed homes in a range of six home types, a village centre including: three lounge areas, library, cinema, meeting room, village management office, centralised mailroom, outdoor and lifestyle facilities, include pickleball and petanque courts, communal vegetable gardens and communal workshop.
There is also a motorhome parking station with wash-down bay.
Sporle said the village was designed to suit a variety of over-50s lifestyles including those still working, semiretired, and retired people, looking to free up equity and travellers wanting a secure, modern home base.
She said Freedom’s financial model set it apart and when it was time to sell, residents sold for market value.
‘‘On resale, residents share in any capital gain, supporting long-term financial wellbeing,’’ she said.
At the village six home types will be available: 2 x onebedroom, 2 x two-bedroom, 2 x three-bedroom with prices starting from $350,000.
The first residents were expected to move in mid-2026.
