Hampstead School pupils, staff and whanau, did a whirlwind trip around Aotearoa last Friday when the school staged its first ever production, Hampstead Roadies.

Teacher Alice Czerski said the pupils had been busily preparing for their inaugural production. They performed two shows Friday last week at the Ashburton Event Centre.

The show was created by one of the teachers, Kendra Hall and her teenage children who are past pupils of the school.

The performance took the audience on an exciting journey around New Zealand. Along the way showcasing the wonderful aspects of culture, scenery and wildlife.

Hall said the show was a complete success.

After auditions, four pupils were chosen to lead the adventures, Tyler Wong as Liam, Ashton Lawson as Noah, Jaylah Ritchie as Chloe and Emily Irving as Maya.

The pupils decided to undertake an epic and spontaneous journey around the country as a school project sparks their curiosity.

Bringing their unique perspective to the trip lead to hilarious situations along with heartwarming moment.

‘‘The story fitted in perfectly with our geography and Kiwiana unit as the children were able to learn about all the amazing places we have around New Zealand,’’ Hall said.

The road trip took the audience from Whakatere to the Bay of Islands, Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington Zoo and stadium, across on the ferry to the Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura, Akaroa, Oamaru, Dunedin, Te Anau, Queenstown, Stewart Island and the West Coast.

‘‘Each class were given a location and an iconic attraction to create a song or dance to. Children learnt about native animals, and created amazing art work. It was certainly a team effort,’’ Hall said.

The production involved the entire school.

Pupils from the senior and junior schools took to the stage for some shared numbers with a special ending involving the whole cast.

Deputy principal Sarah Grieve said it has been wonderful to watch the pupils and teachers putting their hearts and souls into preparing for this exciting adventure.

‘‘We are so proud of the immense talent we have at school, and we couldn’t wait to showcase it to our whanau, and friends.

‘‘We also would like to thank our community for their support as without it this would not be possible,’’ she said.
